Understanding Periodontal Disease
Gum disease is a progressive disease that occurs when excessive
plaque and tartar buildup around the tooth attract bacteria. Statistics tell us
that an estimated 75% of Americans have some level of gum disease and only some
end up seeking treatment. If left untreated, gum disease can wear down the
tissues and even cause tooth loss. An active infection in the mouth may spread
to other parts of the body, so patients with gum disease may be at an increased
risk of developing cancer, having a stroke, or being diagnosed with diabetes.
This is a preventable and treatable condition but there is no cure. We offer
advanced periodontal therapy to get gum disease under control.
