Advanced Periodontal Care for a Healthy Smile

Gum disease treatment and periodontal therapy for optimal oral health.

Periodontal Treatment for Optimal Oral Health

If you have gum disease and are experiencing symptoms such as bone loss, gum recession, or loose teeth, you may need to undergo periodontal therapy with some of our advanced treatments. Periodontal treatment is necessary when certain conditions affect the health of your gums and areas of the jawbone that hold the teeth securely in place. A proper periodontal care and maintenance plan is essential for preventing gum disease and helping you maintain optimal oral health.

Our Featured Services

Gingivectomy

This procedure involves removing and reshaping loose gum tissue and reducing any pocket depth that has developed between the teeth and gums. This type of procedure is typically necessary when scaling and root planing or other procedures have not been effective. It is performed under local anesthesia and involves removing all diseased tissue.

Osseous Surgery / Flap Surgery

Osseous surgery, also known as flap surgery, may be necessary for patients that have moderate or advanced gum disease. The procedure reduces the depth of the pockets by lifting away gum tissue from the tooth and underlying bone. The surface of the teeth can then be cleaned of tartar and plaque buildup relatively easily.

Periodontal Maintenance

This is an ongoing program of deep cleanings and other treatments to prevent gum disease from returning or developing. Even the most diligent oral hygiene regimen may not be enough to prevent calculus formation on the teeth. We will evaluate periodontal pockets during this treatment and check for other problems during each visit.

Scaling and Root Planing

This is a non-surgical alternative to traditional gum disease treatment that can effectively treat the early stages of gum disease and reduce periodontal pocket depth. The treatment can be performed under local anesthesia and sedation, if necessary. The procedure involves using small instruments and special tools to clean the area below the gum line and around the roots of the teeth. Once plaque and tartar buildup have cleared, the surface of the teeth can be smoothed out and healthy gum tissue reattaches to the teeth.

Extractions

We can perform simple or surgical tooth extractions at our office if you have fractured or damaged teeth, severe gum disease that has affected your teeth, or crowded teeth. Teeth may also be extracted for cosmetic reasons. Removing your natural teeth because of an infection or decay is a last resort if other treatment methods have failed.

Occlusal Adjustment

Jaw misalignment can cause a number of oral health issues and may be the reason why you experience bouts of neck pain, tooth pain, or TMJ symptoms. We can fix your bite so that the teeth come together properly and will make sure any fillings, crowns, bridges, and other dental treatments are not triggering the problem.

Oral Pathology Exam

A comprehensive oral pathology exam will detect any signs of oral cancer. We will look for cancerous growths and suspicious lesions inside the mouth, including the lips, cheeks, palate, tongue, face, and gum tissue around the teeth. Pain is not always an indicator of a problem. Some of the symptoms of oral cancer include: reddish or whitish patches inside the mouth; sores that fail to heal or bleed easily; a strange lump or thinking of the skin inside the mouth; a chronic sore throat or hoarseness; difficulty chewing or swallowing. In addition to coming in for your in-office exam, we encourage patients to perform an oral cancer self-examination at least once a month.

Bone Grafting

If you have lost bone tissue because of gum disease or do not have enough bone tissue available to support dental implants, you may be a good candidate for a bone grafting procedure. We perform several bone restoration procedures or a sinus lift at our practice and may include it as part of your comprehensive treatment plan. Learn More >>

Dental Implants

Getting dental implants to replace missing teeth can improve the function and esthetics of your smile. Dental implants are made out of titanium which makes them resistant to decay and general wear and tear. They are designed to last a lifetime and look and function just like your real teeth. About Your Gum Health

Gum disease is a progressive disease that occurs when excessive plaque and tartar buildup around the tooth attract bacteria. Statistics tell us that an estimated 75% of Americans have some level of gum disease and only some end up seeking treatment. If left untreated, gum disease can wear down the tissues and even cause tooth loss. An active infection in the mouth may spread to other parts of the body, so patients with gum disease may be at an increased risk of developing cancer, having a stroke, or being diagnosed with diabetes. This is a preventable and treatable condition but there is no cure. We offer advanced periodontal therapy to get gum disease under control. Learn More >>

Gum Grafting

If you have been treated with gum disease but now are concerned about receding gums, talk to us about gum recession treatment with a traditional gum graft or the Pinhole Surgical Technique. We offer both treatment options at our practice and strive to restore your beautiful smile with minimal trauma to the tissues. Gum recession may be making you feel self-conscious about your appearance but there are treatment options available to effectively restore your natural gum line and enhance your smile. Learn More >>

Laser Gum Disease Treatment

Patients diagnosed with periodontal disease can enjoy numerous benefits with laser gum disease treatment using the Biolase WaterLase iPlus laser. We have found that laser therapy is an effective minimally-invasive procedure for patients that have moderate to severe gum disease. We can eradicate an infection in the mouth without damaging healthy gum tissue and also promote the tissue healing and regeneration process. Learn More >>

Sedation Dentistry

Research shows that many adults postpone or neglect dental care because they are fearful about visiting the dentist. Even though your periodontal care plan may be extensive, there is no need to feel anxious about coming in for your treatment. We offer IV sedation at our practice, an invaluable resource for patients that may be experiencing moderate to severe levels of dental anxiety. Sedation dentistry can make your experience at the office more manageable and help you get the treatment you need and deserve in a timely manner.  Sedation Dentistry >>

Peri-Implantitis Treatment

Peri-implantitis occurs when plaque and tartar buildup around a dental implant causes gum tissue irritation. Much like gum disease, if left untreated, the infection can progress and cause loss of healthy gums and bone and may lead to failing dental implants. We offer peri-implantitis treatment to eliminate diseased tissue to safeguard your dental implants and restore health and stability to your jaw bone.

Laser Periodontics

For patients who are “tongue-” or “lip-tied” or have a “gummy” smile, we can perform a frenectomy or soft tissue recontouring procedure. We use our laser technology to effectively remove excessive gum tissue without harming the surrounding healthy gums and bone. A frenectomy removes the frenulum, or a piece of gum tissue that hinders the movement of the upper lip or tongue. Soft tissue recontouring evens out and reshapes the gum line for a more symmetrical, toothy smile. This procedure may also be performed to reach plaque or tartar buildup that is present on the teeth under the gum tissue. Read more about Laser Periodontics
