The Pinhole Surgical Technique: Benefits
The Pinhole Surgical Technique is designed to be minimally invasive thus providing minimal discomfort for the dental patient. Essentially, traditional gum grafting would involve making smaller incisions and could often include taking gum tissue from other parts of the mouth to surgically place on other parts of the mouth that have receding gums. Unlike traditional gum grafting the Pinhole Surgical Technique does not utilize gum grafting. As the name would suggest the Pinhole Surgical Technique involves making a small pinhole incision above the tooth that is suffering from gum recession and using this pinhole to move gum tissue around until the tender exposed root is covered with newly replaced healthy tissue.
Major Benefits of The Pinhole Surgical Technique
- It is the least invasive way to use tissue to correct gum recession.
- This Technique is minimally invasive meaning less recovery time
- Minor pain is felt by patients because pinhole is minimally invasive
