We have all probably dealt with a toothache at some point in our lives.  Toothaches are the result of several different factors.  The pain that stems from a toothache is always apparent, normally in the form of throbbing, but the factor may not be.  The pain will sometimes intensify as time goes by, when you eat, lay down, or drink hot/cold liquids.  Toothaches are very painful, and it may seem that no matter what you do – it continues to hurt more.

In the dental world, toothaches can result from a multitude of problems.

                  -infections

                  -cavities

-abscess in the teeth or gums

                  -trapped debris between teeth

                  -trauma to the face

And the list goes on.

If you go without receiving care from a medical professional, the toothache will not subside and may become life-threatening. While life-threatening may seem dramatic, and happen in rare occasions, when you don’t take care of the toothache, you may be missing signs of major oral diseases.

Anytime you start to experience a toothache, you shouldn’t hesitate to schedule an appointment with your dentist to have it checked.  Even though you may be able to use certain products to stop the pain, the pain will always come back until you fix the root of the problem.  If you visit your dentist in time and they catch the problem early, you may have no problems keeping your tooth.  When caught early, the procedure usually includes getting a filling, crown, or root canal.

If the toothache becomes more serious, and the tooth cannot be saved, your doctor will do the necessary procedure to clear up your pains and provide proper medicine to help you with the healing process.

It is common that in most of our lives we will deal with the pain and discomfort of a toothache. Instead of doing the instinctual, dealing with the problem on your own, schedule an appointment with your dentist at your earliest convenience to get the problem rectified. The sooner you schedule and have dental care, the better outcome for your oral health and pain.
